North West Police Probe After Naked Man Tied Up And Burned Alive

Police in the North West are investigating a brutal killing after the burned body of a man was discovered in bushes near an informal settlement in Mooinooi.

According to police spokesperson Kelebogile Morake, the victim — a 35-year-old Lesotho national — was found late on Thursday night in the Khlamtwna informal settlement.

Officers were initially called to the area following reports that a person had been murdered.

“Police attended the scene and met a woman who identified herself as the deceased’s girlfriend,” Morake said.

“She indicated that she had received information that her boyfriend had been murdered and left in nearby bushes.”

When police arrived at the location, they noticed flames burning in the bushes.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police noticed flames, indicating that something was burning.”

Victim Found Naked With Hands Tied Before Being Set Alight

Police said the man’s body was discovered lying on the ground with both hands tied behind his back.

A naked male body was found at the scene, and investigators confirmed that the victim had been set alight.

“During preliminary investigations, the deceased girlfriend indicated that the victim had allegedly been forcefully apprehended by a group of unknown community members, after being accused of stealing their cattle,” Morake said.

Authorities believe the attack may be linked to a suspected case of mob justice following the accusation.

North West Police Warn Against Vigilante Justice

Acting North West police commissioner Ryno Naidoo strongly condemned the killing and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.

He called on community members to report suspected criminal activity to police so that investigations can be handled through proper legal channels.
