In a fresh crackdown on unprofessional behavior, taxi drivers are now facing hefty fines for poor hygiene.

Drivers who fail to maintain proper cleanliness will be fined R1,500.

The move aims to improve the overall passenger experience and keep taxi drivers  in better shape during operation.

More Than Just Hygiene

Drivers who engage in swearing, wear shorts and vests, or operate while intoxicated will be hit with fines ranging from R500 to R1,500.

The authorities noted, these new regulations is a wider effort to enhance driver conduct and safety for passengers.

Keep Clean Or Face Fines

Taxi operators are also under scrutiny. If they allow dirty taxis to load passengers, they’ll be fined R500.

The association’s spokesperson, Touch Mathebula, says these measures are necessary to address complaints and improve the image of the taxi industry.
