Nine Children Injured After Scholar Transport Vehicle Crashes Into Redcliffe Home

Nine children were transported to hospital after a scholar transport vehicle crashed into a home in Redcliffe, Verulam, on Tuesday morning.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa responded to the scene on Buffelsdraai Road at around 7.47am following reports of a serious collision involving a white Toyota Hiace.

On arrival, officers found that the vehicle had left the road and ploughed into a residential property in an informal settlement.

Scholar Transport Vehicle Crashes Into Redcliffe House

Emergency responders said the impact caused major damage to both the house and the vehicle.

Two windows were shattered during the collision, while burglar bars were bent outward and a concrete boundary wall was also damaged. Debris and vehicle parts were scattered across the scene.

The Toyota Hiace sustained extensive damage, with the front section crushed and the roof caving in. Authorities said parts of the passenger side panels had been ripped off, while the driver’s door detached completely during the crash.

Nine Children Taken To Hospital After KZN Crash

It was established that about nine children, aged between seven and nine years old, were travelling in the scholar transport vehicle at the time of the collision.

The children were privately transported to Redcliffe Clinic for medical assessment before first responders arrived on scene.

The driver was allegedly injured in the crash but was not at the scene when emergency teams arrived.

Investigation Underway Into Redcliffe Scholar Transport Crash

The cause of the crash has not yet been established.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No fatalities were reported.
