Nike Unveils Robotic Sneakers And ‘Mind-Enhancing’ Mules In Futuristic Footwear Line

Nike is stepping into the future once again — this time with a fusion of robotics and neuroscience in its latest footwear innovations.

The sportswear giant has unveiled Project Amplify, a robotic-assisted shoe designed to boost walking and running performance, and the Mind 001 and Mind 002, neuroscience-based mules and sneakers aimed at enhancing focus and sensory awareness.

Developed in collaboration with robotics startup Dephy, Project Amplify functions like a “second set of calf muscles” for “everyday athletes” who want to go farther, faster, and with less effort.

The first-generation version features a running shoe with a carbon fibre plate, a calf-mounted rechargeable battery, a motor, and a drive belt — all packed into a design that retains Nike’s signature vibrant style.

The sportswear maker likens the experience to riding an electric bike, where your natural motion is amplified rather than replaced. The company says the shoes make “walking or running uphill feel like moving on flat ground,” and early testers reportedly cut their mile times from 12 minutes to 10.

Project Amplify: Robotics Meet Performance

According to Nike, the development process involved more than 400 athletes testing various prototypes across “over 2.4 million steps” — equivalent to 12,000 laps around the Nike Sport Research Lab’s 200-metre track.

The collaboration between Dephy and Nike marks a growing trend of wearable robotics crossing into consumer markets, echoing innovations such as Arc’teryx’s MO/GO pants, which use robotic technology to assist hikers with balance and endurance.

Project Amplify, however, is built with accessibility in mind, promising a smaller, more refined, and potentially more affordable option for the everyday user. Nike says a “broad consumer launch” is expected in the coming years, though no exact release date has been confirmed.

The Mind Line: Footwear That Feeds the Brain

Alongside Project Amplify, Nike’s Mind 001 and Mind 002 represent a different kind of breakthrough. Created by the Nike Mind Science Department, these shoes feature foam nodes that allow wearers to feel the texture of the ground beneath their feet.

According to the company, this unique design “heightens sensory awareness, which can help clear away distractions and enhance concentration.”

The Mind 001 mules and Mind 002 sneakers are scheduled for release in January 2026, marking the debut of the Nike Mind line. Together, these innovations showcase Nike’s continued push to merge technology, science, and sport into the next generation of performance wear.
