According to spokesperson Captain Frederick C van Wyk, the operation followed up on intelligence about a truck allegedly transporting drugs from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
“Members of the Paarl Highway Patrol, supported by the Boland K9 and Provincial Traffic, intercepted the vehicle near the tunnel at around 7pm,” Van Wyk said.

Large quantity of narcotics recovered
A search of the truck uncovered 55.8 kilogrammes of tik, valued at approximately R16.3 million, along with 30.5 kilogrammes of cocaine worth nearly R3.9 million.
Van Wyk said the seizure represents one of the largest drug interdictions in the area in recent months and highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing.

A 44-year-old Nigerian national was arrested on the scene. He faces charges of possession and dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court.
Van Wyk commended the success of the operation, saying it underscores the South African Police Service’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding communities.
