Nhlanhla Mafu Drops New Single, Gives Solo Performance But Fans Say “Ishoda Ngo Mafikizolo!”

Veteran South African vocalist Nhlanhla Mafu, loved for her soul-soaked ballads and iconic Mafikizolo run, released her new single Inqaba Yam — but Mzansi, as usual, found something else to talk about.
The song, a blend of gentle guitar, soft percussion, and Nhlanhla’s unmistakable deep vocals, dropped in November. She debuted it live on a morning TV show, dressed in a flowing blue gown and her now-signature oversized shades — the very shades that took over the comments section.

Nhlanhla recently revealed she’s also exploring life as a DJ, keeping her sound fresh while pushing through personal hardships that inspired the song’s themes of strength and resilience. But when she stepped onto that TV stage, mic in hand, voice rising beautifully over the instrumentation… viewers had their thumbs ready.
And they did not disappoint.
‘Where’s the spice?!’ – Mzansi Reacts
The comments section quickly turned into a mix of jokes, nostalgia, and some sharp jabs.
Lelo Sammy came in swinging, shocked at the tame caption under the performance video:
“I’m shocked to see a clean caption with no spice, like ‘Nhlanhla, who ate Zahara’s money with her ex husband…’”
The jab referenced the old industry drama involving DJ Sbu, TK Nciza (Nhlanhla’s ex), and the late Zahara — drama that apparently still lives rent-free in some people’s minds.
Another user, @DoN’PapiiRiCo, took things in a different direction with a playful guess: “Her son prolly made this beat for her.”
@FROLIC, however, wanted that old Mafikizolo magic back: “Hai no. Ishoda ngo Mafikizolo le.”
Ouch!

Nhlanhla Mafu’s Sunglasses Debate
Nhlanhla’s trademark shades became a whole subplot. @Rogertthat_1652 took a humorous jab, asking: “Is she taking the big sunglasses fashion to the grave?”
Mzansi will joke about anything. Despite the teasing, many fans praised the singer’s longevity and vocal power.
_babybearr wrote: “Being this relevant and good after so many years in the industry! We gotta give it to her.”
@LulaMwape added: “[It] sounds really nice, actually.”
And @Mandlovu kept it wholesome: “Congratulations to Nhlanhla.”
