Ngizwe Mchunu Under SAHRC Investigation After Explosive Anti-LGBTQIA+ Comments

KwaZulu-Natal media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has landed in hot water after his controversial comments about the LGBTQIA+ community ignited a storm online.

The former Ukhozi FM presenter shared a video slamming the wedding of Simon Seun Nhlapo and Crosby Jodwana, which took place on 27 September 2025.

In the clip, Mchunu criticised the couple and launched into broader attacks against the LGBTQIA+ community—remarks that quickly triggered fierce backlash across social media.

SAHRC Confirms Investigation Into Complaints

On Thursday, 2 October, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) confirmed it had received a wave of formal complaints from outraged members of the public and civil society groups.

“The Commission confirms that it has received complaints from aggrieved members of the public and civil society organisations regarding these alleged offensive remarks.

“The Commission is registering the complaints and will assess them in line with the Commission’s Complaints Handling Procedure. The Commission will communicate the outcome of the assessment of the complaints in due course,” the statement read.

Social Media Demands Action Against Ngizwe Mchunu

Social media users have applauded the SAHRC’s intervention, with many demanding accountability from the outspoken media personality.

This isn’t the first time a public figure has been flagged by the Commission. Mchunu now joins controversial names like Nota Baloyi and Gayton McKenzie, who have also come under fire for inflammatory statements.
