Ngizwe Mchunu House Fire Delays Testimony In Bonginkosi Khanyile Unrest Trial

The Durban Regional Court has heard that the house of anti-immigration march organiser Ngizwe Mchunu was allegedly burnt down over the weekend.

Mchunu had been expected to testify on Monday in the 2021 unrest-related trial involving Bonginkosi Khanyile.

However, Khanyile’s legal representative informed the court that Mchunu was unable to appear following the incident at his home.

No additional information surrounding the fire has been released at this stage.

Bonginkosi Khanyile Faces Charges Linked To 2021 Unrest

Khanyile is facing charges of incitement to commit violence as well as contravening COVID-19 regulations relating to gatherings during the period of the July 2021 unrest in South Africa.

The matter remains before the Durban Regional Court as proceedings continue.

Court Proceedings Expected To Resume On Tuesday

Despite Mchunu’s absence on Monday, the trial is expected to continue on Tuesday.

The court has not yet indicated whether alternative arrangements will be made regarding Mchunu’s testimony.
