Ryan Evans, a safety adviser for Reuters, was tragically killed in this strike. The attack targeted the hotel Sapphire, where Evans and a six-person Reuters team were staying.
President Zelenskyy offered his heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. Reuters later identified Ryan Evans as the victim and stated that two Reuters journalists were also injured in the assault.
Evans, a former British soldier, had been contributing his expertise to Reuters since 2022, advising journalists on safety matters in conflict zones like Ukraine, and Israel, and during the Paris Olympics. He was 38 years old.
Reuters mentioned that they could not independently verify if the missile was fired by Russia or if the hotel was intentionally targeted. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy also highlighted that Ukrainian forces made significant advancements, capturing two settlements in Russia’s Kursk region.
