On Monday, motorists faced lengthy delays on the N1 north and N12 east near the Diepkloof intersection in Soweto.
Protesters plundering and torching a truck on the roadway caused the delays.
“The reports of protests on the N1 north, N12 east split near the Diepkloof interchange next to Diepkloof Hostel and this is causing heavy delays on the N1 north, N12 east from Freedom Park,” says Joburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
There were also disruptions to traffic on Chris Hani Road in Diepkloof between the Soweto empowerment zone and the N12 exit.
“Officers have been dispatched and motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution rather avoid that route and use the Golden Highway and Ben Naude Drive in Diepkloof as alternative routes,” says Fihla.
