On Saturday night, a collision involving a Toyota Hilux bakkie and a stray animal claimed the lives of a taxi driver and a passenger.
This unfortunate incident took place on the R378 road near Ganyesa, heading towards Morokweng, according to the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.
Traffic officers on the scene reported that the Toyota Hilux bakkie collided with a stray cow, resulting in a secondary collision with a Toyota Quantum minibus.
Due to the severity of the impact, the taxi lost control and landed on its side. As a result, 18 other travelers were transported to Ganyesa District Hospital, five of whom were in critical condition.
The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management in North West, Wessels Morweng, has emphasized the growing problem of road accidents caused by stray animals.

“My plea is for our community to make sure that their livestock is kept in their safe areas, especially during the night, as our villages are very dark at night and the visibility is very poor,” said Morweng.
Morweng extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured travelers. The provincial traffic authorities have indicated that while five of the injured are critical, the others have not sustained serious injuries.
