Members of the South African Police Service’s anti-smuggling task team in Limpopo have made another notable achievement. They recently apprehended a 44-year-old man in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
A white Toyota Fortuner, identified as stolen, was recovered on Monday, according to Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Colonel Ledwaba explained that the police received intelligence about a white Toyota Fortuner travelling from Gauteng Province to Musina in the Vhembe District.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police initiated investigations to locate the vehicle, which was spotted driving along the N1 North public road near ZZ2 farm outside Polokwane. The popular sport utility vehicle, carrying a single occupant, was intercepted by the authorities.
Upon investigation, the police discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen on July 31 from Wierdabrug in Tshwane, Gauteng Province.
Consequently, the 44-year-old suspect was immediately arrested on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle was intended to be smuggled into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border post.

The driver of the Toyota Fortuner is scheduled to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon, where he will face charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. This incident highlights the efficiency and dedication of the anti-smuggling task team in curbing illegal activities in the region.
The police’s proactive measures and quick response are commendable, reflecting their commitment to maintaining law and order while thwarting smuggling efforts across borders.
