Three suspects were apprehended by the Brackendowns police in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday after being found in possession of firearms, including an AK47 rifle.
The suspects will face charges of impersonating a police officer and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
During a routine patrol along the R59, members of the Brackendowns police noticed a suspicious-looking BMW with blue lights.
Acting on their instincts, they decided to stop the vehicle and investigate further. To their surprise, they discovered three occupants inside the car, who were found to be in possession of six firearms, including an AK-47 rifle and a shotgun.
Further investigations revealed that the suspects’ vehicle was a rental car, adding another layer of suspicion to the case. The police are currently working on gathering more information to determine the motive behind the suspects’ actions.
The three suspects are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court in the near future.
The charges they will face carry serious implications, as impersonating a police officer and possessing firearms unlawfully are both criminal offenses that can result in severe penalties.
