On Monday, two suspects are scheduled to appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court following their arrest on charges related to drug trafficking.
The arrests came after a diligent operation led by the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau Team Western Cape. Reports suggest that the suspects were allegedly transporting drugs valued at approximately R1.7 million from Gauteng to Cape Town.
Details of the Operation
The operation was initiated after the team received intelligence regarding a Toyota Hilux bakkie suspected of carrying illegal substances. On Friday, law enforcement officials located the bakkie on the N1 highway near Kraaifontein, specifically at the Brighton Road turnoff. Prompt action was taken; the vehicle was intercepted and subjected to a thorough search.
Discovery of the Illegal Substance
During the search, officers discovered a significant cache of drugs: 215 one-kilogram parcels, expertly wrapped in packing tape and hidden within false compartments inside the trailer. The parcels contained cannabis, clearly indicating an extensive operation aimed at supplying illegal substances. The two individuals, aged 27 and 28, were apprehended on suspicion of their involvement in the drug transportation effort.
This incident underscores the relentless efforts of the Hawks in curbing drug trafficking and highlights the critical role of community reports in disrupting criminal activities.
