Two state prosecutors, Tshikani Golden Rikhotso and Mikhalani Patrick Chauke, made their first appearance before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court. The duo, arrested on Thursday, face serious allegations of defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.
Sivenathi Gunya, North West spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), explained that extensive investigations led to the issuance of arrest warrants for three individuals.
However, only the two state prosecutors were arrested on Thursday, subsequently leading to their court appearance.
The NPA is actively searching for the third accused and remains hopeful of an imminent arrest. As the matter stands adjourned to September 26, Rikhotso and Chauke have been released on bail of R1,000 each. They are required to report weekly to their local police station as part of their bail conditions.
Gunya emphasized the NPA’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring that justice is upheld within the community. The NPA is serious about rooting out corruption from within its ranks, promising stringent disciplinary actions against any member found compromising the system.
