In a shocking incident that has left the community of Volksrust in Mpumalanga distraught, a 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly brutally stabbing his 50-year-old father to death. The incident took place on Sunday evening in the quiet suburb of Bukuzakhe, according to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police.
As the investigation unfolds, the motive behind this brutal act remains unknown. However, it is believed that the father could have been killed for his property.
According to the information available to the police, the victim was renting out some back rooms on his property, which may have attracted the attention of the suspect.
Further reports suggest that the suspect, who was no longer residing with his father, visited the house on the day of the incident. Allegedly, he attempted to evict the tenants, claiming that he was the lawful heir to his father’s property.
“Further reports indicate that the suspect (son) was no longer residing with his father and on the day of the incident, he allegedly went to the father’s house. He tried to evict the tenants, after claiming that he is the lawful heir of his father’s property although he has three other siblings,” said Mdhluli.
This claim was disputed by his three other siblings. Tragically, during this confrontation, the suspect allegedly resorted to violence and fatally stabbed his father.
As soon as the authorities were alerted, both the police and paramedics rushed to the scene. Tragically, the father was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
The police wasted no time in opening a murder case and apprehending the 30-year-old son. He was subsequently charged and appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody until his bail hearing on October 2.
