A forty-four-year-old man has been sentenced to twenty years in prison for the rape of a vulnerable woman in Kagisanong. The incident occurred on Saturday night, 03 September 2022, when the victim was enjoying some drinks at a local shebeen in Caleb Motshabi, Bloemfontein.
The accused, Thabang Pitso, approached the woman and forcibly took her to an unknown address where he subjected her to a horrifying ordeal. The frightened forty-nine-year-old woman immediately reported the incident to the police, who launched a thorough investigation.

The Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) took charge of the case, with Detective Constable Teboho Molefi leading the investigation. Due to the diligent efforts of the FCS Unit, the suspect was apprehended and charged with rape.
After a year-long trial, the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court delivered its verdict, finding Pitso guilty of rape. The court handed down a sentence of twenty years in prison, ensuring that the perpetrator will face the consequences of his horrific actions.

Furthermore, the court declared Pitso unfit to possess a firearm, recognizing the danger he poses to society. His name has also been added to the sexual offenders register, ensuring that his criminal history is recorded and available to relevant authorities.
