A 17-year-old grade 11 pupil in Polokwane, Limpopo, is facing serious accusations of sexually assaulting two grade R girls, both aged 6.
According to Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the alleged incidents occurred under alarming circumstances within the school environment.
The first reported incident took place while the accused and one of the victims were waiting in the vehicle of a teacher who was responsible for transporting them to their residences.
The second incident allegedly occurred when another girl, who had left her class to get water, was asked to touch the teen inappropriately. Both young girls reported the incidents to their parents, leading to the involvement of law enforcement.
After the allegations were made, the suspect, who resides with his adoptive mother—a teacher at the same school—was arrested on August 24.
He is currently detained at the Polokwane Juvenile Centre. His first appearance before the Polokwane Children’s Court took place earlier this week, and the case has been postponed to September 10 for further investigation.
This case has shaken the Polokwane community, particularly the families involved and the school staff. As the investigation continues, the community hopes for a swift and just resolution. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of safeguarding our children and maintaining strict vigilance within educational environments.
