A police training instructor has been arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on charges of rape. The incident allegedly occurred on March 31 at a police training academy in Phillippi, Western Cape.
According to IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, the instructor called a female police trainee to his office, and she reluctantly went after making several excuses in the past.
Once inside the office, the instructor allegedly locked the door and proceeded to rape her. The trainee did not report the incident immediately but came forward a few days later.
The case was reported to the authorities and subsequently referred to IPID for investigation. The instructor was arrested on April 21 and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on April 22. The court postponed the case to May 2 for a formal bail application.
