According to emergency services, IPSS Search and Rescue, the driver of the vehicle attempted to cross the river on New Year’s Eve.

However, the force of the water was too strong, causing the vehicle to be submerged. Prompt action was taken by emergency personnel to respond to the incident.

Despite their efforts, the search operation had to be postponed due to heavy rain and low visibility. With the dawn of the new year, a collaborative effort involving members of the community and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) successfully retrieved the vehicle from the river.

Tragically, the bodies of an adult female and a seven-year-old boy were discovered within the recovered vehicle. Both victims were handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation. However, an adult male remains missing, intensifying the ongoing search along the riverbanks.
