PICS| SAPS Car Accident Claims Seven Lives, Including Arrested Suspect

All five occupants of the Renault sedan and the two passengers in the SAPS Toyota light delivery van, including the police officer and the suspect, tragically lost their lives at the scene.

On Sunday morning, a devastating accident occurred on the R101 between Mookgophong and Mokopane in the Waterberg District of Limpopo, resulting in the loss of seven lives. The collision involved a police Toyota Hilux bakkie and a Renault sedan.

The victims of this tragic incident include five individuals who were travelling in the Renault sedan and two occupants of the SA Police Service (SAPS) vehicle. Among the deceased in the SAPS vehicle were a police officer and an arrested suspect who was being transported.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, the collision occurred when the Renault sedan collided head-on with the Toyota light delivery van. The van was travelling from Mookgophong towards Mokopane at the time of the accident.

The driver of the SAPS vehicle, a sergeant, was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving medical attention. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown and is under investigation.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, has expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured police sergeant, stationed in Naboomspruit, a speedy recovery.

The identities of the deceased individuals will be released once their next of kin have been notified.
