Over A Dozen Cars Destroyed In Pretoria Scrapyard Fire

An incident erupted on Saturday afternoon as a fire broke out at an outbuilding in Malie Street, Booysens, Pretoria. The City of Tshwane’s emergency services department reported that the blaze began around 3 pm and resulted in the destruction of over a dozen vehicles.

According to the emergency services department, the emergency call centre immediately dispatched a grassfire unit and a rapid intervention unit from Philip Nel Park Fire Station to the scene.

Multiple additional firefighting resources from various stations, including Atteridgeville, Bosman, Innesdale, Heuweloord, and Centurion, were also sent as backup. The resources included two fire trucks, a water tanker, and a unit from the district commander.

Upon arrival, firefighters found several vehicles on fire in a scrapyard and worked swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby factory.

Thanks to the prompt and effective response of the firefighting teams, the fire was successfully contained and extinguished by 4:34 pm. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

It was a busy day for Tshwane’s emergency services as another fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at a factory in Hennie Street, Rosslyn. The Rosslyn Fire Station responded to find foam mattresses and two steel containers on fire outside the factory.

Firefighters had to tackle flames on parts of the factory itself, requiring additional resources from other stations. These included four fire trucks, two water tankers, and two foam tenders.
