In an effort to curb tech disruptions during lessons, the Netherlands announced that it will implement a ban on mobile phones in classrooms.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the government.

Starting from next year, students will no longer be allowed to bring mobiles, tablets, or smartwatches to class, as these devices have been found to hinder students’ learning abilities and concentration, resulting in decreased academic performance.
The Dutch government stated that there is mounting evidence supporting the detrimental effects of mobile phones during lessons, prompting the decision.
Consequently, as of January 1, 2024, mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches will be prohibited in classrooms.
The government has requested that school authorities collaborate with teachers, parents, and students to establish internal regulations by October.

Although the center-right coalition government has not yet enforced an official ban, it asserts the right to do so after evaluating progress in the coming year.
Education Minister Robbert Dijkgraaf expressed his hope that this measure will facilitate a “cultural transformation” and enhance the learning environment.
