A neighbour arrested for kidnapping and killing 8-year-old Lukhololwam Mkontwana will not seek bail.
Aphiwe Vakele (31) is facing a premeditated murder accusation in Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
The state believes that cellphone data and DNA connect him to the crime committed in 2022.
The case has been postponed until March 14th for further investigation.
Crime fighters and Nyanga community members who packed the courtroom said they were pleased with the arrest, but they want more information since they suspect Vakele was not operating alone.
According to the court, Vakele is facing a Schedule 6 charge, and DNA and post-mortem examinations have been conducted.
They are awaiting comments from further witnesses, as another suspect will be apprehended in due course.
Vakele remains in custody until his next court appearance.
