The family of Leo Govender, the missing Durban man who was last seen taking an e-hailing ride from his Westville home, has sadly confirmed that he died in a car crash.
Leo’s brother, Wayne Govender, revealed that Leo was involved in a car accident on Friday, and his cellphone had been turned off, making it impossible for the family to reach him. Concerned for his safety, they filed a missing person’s case with the Pinetown South African Police Service.

Wayne Govender shared the heartbreaking news, stating, “Leo Govender has been found. He was in an accident that led to his demise.” Describing his brother as a warm, friendly, and generous person, Wayne expressed the family’s deep sorrow and how much they will miss Leo’s presence.
“Leo Govender had studied marketing at the Durban University of Technology and had been working with various local and international makeup brands.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is under investigation. The incident occurred when an unidentified body was discovered on the corner of Sydney Road and Mutual Lane on Friday, February 9.
The body was later identified as Leo Govender, who had been reported missing on the same day after taking an e-hailing cab from his Westville home into the Durban central business district.
The Govender family shared that Leo had provided them with the details of the e-hailing service, and according to the information received, he had reached his destination.
