The Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) in Randburg recently made a significant recovery of stolen property, including a Toyota Hilux bakkie belonging to the Health Department.

This successful operation was carried out by the JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit, who acted promptly on a lead provided by a tracking company.

According to Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the spokesperson for the JMPD, two stolen Toyota Hilux vehicles were recovered during the operation, with one of them being a government vehicle.

Fihla commended the officers for their swift action and dedication to duty in recovering a stolen motor vehicle that belonged to the Department of Health.

The recovery took place on Capital Street in Northriding, Randburg, where the officers encountered a male individual at a complex. Upon searching the suspect’s unit, they made several significant discoveries.

These included the two hijacked Toyota Hilux bakkies, which were sought in connection with cases reported in Mondeor and Diepsloot by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

In addition to the stolen vehicles, the officers also found an unlicensed firearm, property suspected to be stolen, and implements used for car break-ins. The discovery of these items further solidified the link between the suspect and criminal activities.

Furthermore, the JMPD officers seized suspected counterfeit government documents, which were purported to be vehicle registration or ownership documents. This finding highlights the extent of the suspect’s involvement in illegal activities and the need for continued vigilance in combating such crimes.

During the course of the operation, the officers faced another challenge when a male individual approached them at Honeydew SAPS.

This individual attempted to bribe the officers with an amount of R3,100 in exchange for the release of his companion. The JMPD officers promptly arrested both men on charges of bribery and possession of stolen property.

The JMPD remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and their property. Superintendent Fihla commended the officers for their dedication and swift action in recovering the stolen property and apprehending the suspects.
