A 33-year-old man is set to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Monday, facing charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The South African man was apprehended while driving a stolen Ford Ranger bakkie, valued at over R1 million, with intentions to smuggle it to Zimbabwe.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the Limpopo police, stated that the province’s law enforcement agencies are actively cracking down on illegal smuggling activities, particularly in areas known for illicit trade and smuggling.

During an anti-smuggling operation conducted in the early hours of Friday, the provincial tracking team, in collaboration with private security companies, arrested the suspect and seized the stolen bakkie.
Law enforcement agents intercepted the black Ford Ranger bakkie in Polokwane, just as it was en route to be smuggled into Zimbabwe through the busy Beitbridge Border. The arrest followed a high-speed car chase, highlighting the determination of the authorities to combat such criminal activities.
Colonel Ledwaba further revealed that the recovered motor vehicle had been reported stolen on February 21 in Alberton, Gauteng province. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to tackle vehicle theft and smuggling across the region.
As the suspect prepares to face charges in court, this incident underscores the commitment of the Limpopo police to maintain law and order and protect the integrity of the province’s borders.
