Police in Polokwane are currently conducting an investigation into a case of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, November 19, 2023, at approximately 19:00 in Dalmada, a suburb located outside Polokwane.
According to preliminary reports, two male victims were returning home from a local spaza shop when they were confronted by two suspects armed with a firearm and a knife. The suspects threatened the victims and demanded cash and cellphones.
Fortunately, one of the victims managed to escape and quickly alerted their landlord, who happened to be a 40-year-old security officer. The security officer, carrying his service pistol, rushed to the scene to assist.
Upon arrival, one of the suspects attempted to flee on foot, while his accomplice was cornered by the landlord. The cornered suspect then brandished a knife and attempted to stab the landlord, resulting in a scuffle between the two.
In an act of self-defence, the security officer fatally shot the suspect. The police were promptly notified of the incident and arrived at the scene. During their investigation, they recovered the stolen cellphone, a toy gun, and the knife that were in the possession of the deceased suspect.
