Authorities in Brits, have initiated an inquest docket to investigate the tragic deaths of two young children, aged three and ten.
The children reportedly became ill after consuming their supper. One child was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other passed away in the hospital. The incident occurred in Regorogile, located in the Sonop area, just outside Brits.

According to reports, a 32-year-old woman prepared a meal consisting of pap, chicken feet, and wheat for her family on Friday. Tragically, it is alleged that the meal may have been contaminated, leading to the illness and subsequent deaths of the children.
Police spokesperson, Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, confirmed that all family members, as well as three children from their neighbors, consumed the meal before retiring for the night.
“According to information, the children aged between two and 17 became ill and vomited in the early hours on Saturday. An ambulance was called.
“One child was declared dead at the scene while others, including the neighbours’ children and the woman who cooked the meal, were taken to Brits Hospital for medical attention,” Mokgwabone said.

He said the second child died in the hospital while two other children were transferred to George Mukhari Hospital.
He said investigations into the matter, including collection and testing of food samples, are underway.
