The body of 18-year-old Reza Saloojee, head boy of Greenside High School, was recovered after he tragically drowned in the Vaal Dam. Reza disappeared on a Sunday afternoon outing with his family, leaving a void in the hearts of many.
Reza Saloojee went missing around 2:30 PM while he and his family were fishing. His father, Bilal Saloojee, shared the harrowing details. Reza had gone into the water to retrieve a floating tackle box blown away by the wind. Unfortunately, the strong current pulled him away, and he was unable to return to shore.

Bilal remained at the scene as divers tirelessly searched for his son. The body was eventually recovered in the dam just before 5 PM on Tuesday.
Bilal described Reza as a loving and caring individual, emphasizing his exemplary academic and social achievements at Greenside High. “He was just a loving child. He was the joy of the world,” he said, reflecting on his son’s vibrant life.
Despite the unimaginable loss, Bilal expressed his gratitude toward local authorities for their diligent efforts in the search. “What I do appreciate with the police captain in the area as well as the head of the search group is they kept us briefed, so the family knew what was happening. They got additional divers to assist them,” he noted.
