Grade 8 Learner Arrested For Possession Of Suspected Stolen Property And Unlicensed Firearm

In a recent development in Giyani, located within the Mopani District of Limpopo, a 16-year-old boy was apprehended by the local police.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday around midnight at Thomo village and involved the possession of suspected stolen property and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, provided detailed insights into the incident.

According to Colonel Ledwaba, the police were on routine patrol duties when they received information about a 16-year-old boy spotted walking towards his residence.

Acting on this tip, the officers traced the suspect to a house in Thomo village. Upon arrival, they found the teenager inside the house with his mother.

When questioned about the firearm, the boy denied possessing one. However, a subsequent search of the house led to the discovery of live ammunition.

The police continued their search and uncovered a bundle of cellphone airtime, seven cellphones, and an unlicensed firearm concealed inside the roof of the house.

The teenager, who is a Grade 8 learner, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the firearm, the airtime stock, and other items found in the house.

The minor was immediately apprehended on charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and stolen property. However, he was later released under parental supervision, with arrangements made for a probation officer to be involved.

The teenager is set to make his first appearance at the Giyani Magistrate’s Court in due course. Colonel Ledwaba emphasized the importance of community cooperation in aiding the police to maintain law and order.
