The Gauteng Department of Education has announced an extension to the 2025 online admission period by an additional 48 hours. Initially, the deadline for enrolling children into grades 1 and 8 was set for Monday.
However, due to unforeseen technical disruptions on the 9th and 10th of August, parents were unable to access or utilize the department’s online system.
MEC Matome Chiloane highlighted the concerns regarding the technical issues that occurred. “The 9th of August and the early hours of the 10th – that’s when the system was completely offline, and parents could not complete and apply.
That’s why we extended the two days from the 12th to the 14th, giving them an extra 48 hours to complete applying,” said Chiloane.
The urgency of this extension is further underscored by the record number of applications received for the upcoming year.
According to MEC Chiloane, the 2024 cohort of applicants has surpassed the numbers from previous years. This substantial increase accentuates the necessity of ensuring that all parents have the opportunity to effectively secure placements for their children.
This extension is a crucial step by the Gauteng Department of Education towards accommodating all applicants amidst the disruptions. Parents who have yet to complete the online admission process are urged to take advantage of this extension period to ensure their children’s placements for the 2025 academic year.
