The Free State High Court in Bloemfontein is set to hear the urgent application of Moroadi Cholota, the former personal assistant to ex-Premier Ace Magashule. The thirty-seven-year-old seeks to have her arrest declared unlawful.
Cholota’s legal team contends that the corruption and fraud charges against her are a consequence of her refusal to provide specific testimony demanded by the state concerning the R255 million asbestos project.
Moroadi Cholota is currently out on bail of R2,500 after being extradited from the United States earlier this month. Her legal team asserts that the charges lack substantial evidence and appear to stem from the state’s attempt to coerce her into becoming a state witness.

Legal analyst Thabo Molete has indicated that Cholota has a reasonable chance of success in her application due to the perceived weaknesses in the state’s case.
Thabo Molete elaborates that several factors indicate that Cholota’s application might succeed. First, the relatively low bail amount suggests that the state does not possess a strong case against her.
Secondly, the sequence of events—where the state initially sought her testimony before changing its stance to prosecution—further questions the integrity of the charges. Molete suggests that these elements collectively provide a promising outlook for Cholota’s urgent application.
