Modi took to Twitter, stating that their discussions covered various topics, ranging from energy to spirituality.
Elon Musk, in turn, professed his admiration for Modi, emphasizing his excitement about India’s future. According to him, India holds more promise than any other large country in the world.
However, Musk has faced criticism from free speech advocates due to allegations that Twitter complied with the Indian government’s requests to remove critical posts.
India’s government has faced accusations of democratic regression, including limitations on free speech and insufficient actions to combat attacks on journalists and minority groups.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently revealed that the platform had faced sustained pressure from Indian officials during his tenure.
Indian information technology minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar dismissed Dorsey’s claims as baseless and accused Twitter of recurrent violations of local laws.
Twitter reported that India ranked fourth globally in terms of government requests to remove content, trailing behind Japan, Russia, and Turkey.
