Disgraced Dr Nandipha Magudumana, has filed assault charges against the Department of Correctional Services. The incident allegedly took place at the Kroonstad Correctional Centre, where Magudumana is currently being held in the hospital wing.
According to Magudumana, she was assaulted during her time at the correctional centre. The Free State police have confirmed that a common assault case was opened at the Park Road police station on Wednesday. Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, stated that the case will be transferred to the Kroonstad Detective Services for further investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. It is crucial to allow the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the facts surrounding the alleged assault.
These charges come after another incident involving Magudumana. On Wednesday, she collapsed in the police holding cells before her scheduled appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court. It was reported that she undressed herself while being transported from prison to court.
Magudumana’s lawyer, Machini Motloung, informed the media that his client was feeling unwell and had requested to appear virtually in court. However, the court denied her request. Magudumana was set to appear alongside her co-accused and lover, Thabo Bester, who is facing charges of rape and murder. Other co-accused individuals include Senohe Matsoara, Zolile Sekeleni, Teboho Lipholo, Buti Masukela, Tieho Makhotsa, Zanda Moyo, and Joel Makhetha.
During the court proceedings on Wednesday, State Prosecutor Amanda Bester announced that the charges against Nastassja Jansen, Thabang Mier, and Moeketsi Ramolula were being withdrawn. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated that the withdrawal of charges was part of their strategy. The trio, who were out on bail, were allowed to leave the dock immediately, visibly relieved.
