The tragic incident of the George building collapse has taken a grim turn as the death toll has now reached 17.
The municipality of George in the Western Cape confirmed this unfortunate news on Sunday afternoon. Despite the grim circumstances, rescue and recovery efforts are still ongoing.
The collapse occurred on Monday, at 75 Victoria Street, reducing the building to rubble. Over the course of 141 hours of non-stop operations, rescue teams managed to extract 46 individuals from the wreckage.
However, the toll of the disaster stands at 17 lives lost, with 14 people currently hospitalized and 35 still unaccounted for.

To ensure the accuracy of the reported numbers, the joint district operations centre has implemented a stringent double verification protocol.
