
An alleged robber was shot dead during an intense exchange of gunfire with Limpopo police. The incident took place during a crime combating operation in the Ritavi policing area, where different police units were on patrol.
The chaos unfolded when a community member alerted the police to a business robbery in progress at a nearby tuck shop. Without wasting any time, the police immediately rushed to the scene to intervene.

As the police arrived at the tuck shop located in Nkowankowa Section B, three male suspects emerged from the premises. However, upon seeing the police, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence.
The exchange of gunfire was intense, and tragically, one of the suspects was fatally shot on the scene. The other two suspects, aged 30 and 33, were swiftly apprehended by the police.
“While the police were busy patrolling at Nkowankowa Section B, a community member alerted them to a business robbery in progress at a nearby tuck shop and they immediately rushed to the scene,” Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
“Upon the arrival of the police, three male suspects came out of the tuck shop. Seemingly, after seeing the police, one suspect allegedly started to shoot at them and they retaliated. The suspect was fatally shot on the scene.”

Upon searching the area, the police also recovered a firearm and the items that were stolen from the shop.
The arrested suspects are expected to face charges of business robbery in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court soon. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and the lengths they go to protect the community.
