On 15 August 2024, the Bellville Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced the company International Data Services Cape (Pty) Ltd and its director, Grant Thomas Van Beulen, aged 57, for failing to submit tax returns.

The court handed down the following sentences: Count 1: Failure to submit an income tax return for the period 2011 resulted in a R1000-00 fine or 15 days imprisonment.
Counts 2-10: Failure to submit income tax returns for the period 2012 to 2019 resulted in a R9000-00 fine or 90 days imprisonment.
Counts 11-12: Failure to submit income tax returns for the period 2020 to 2021 resulted in a R2000-00 fine or 30 days imprisonment.
Count 13: Failure to submit an income tax return for the period 2022 resulted in a R1000-00 fine or 15 days imprisonment.
The investigation into the company’s tax evasion was a collaborative effort between the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit and SARS investigators. Their diligent work has been commended by Major General Makgato, the Hawks’ provincial head.
