Police in Cape Town have arrested a Bolt driver who allegedly stabbed two young women during a feud over their drop-off location. The incident occurred after the driver refused to take the group of friends to their requested destination in Dunoons, despite having been paid the fare for the trip.

According to reports, the driver had made two stops at ATMs to withdraw money before the dispute arose. After a disagreement with the young women, the driver attempted to leave them at a petrol station, but they refused.

In an attempt to resolve the situation, the driver drove the group to the Table View police station, where officers advised him to complete the trip since he had already been paid.

However, tensions escalated when the driver snatched one of the young women’s cellphones as they were recording the incident.

The women managed to retrieve the phone, but the driver became even more agitated. He stopped the car and allegedly stabbed two of the women with a sharp object resembling a knife.

Following the incident, a 39-year-old suspect was arrested at his residence in Brooklyn, Milnerton. The suspect will appear at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the arrest and emphasized the seriousness of the charges. The arrest provides some relief for the victims, who have expressed their gratitude for the swift action taken by the police.

One of the victims, Silu Daniso, expressed her gratitude for the suspect’s arrest. However, she remains cautious and acknowledges that the journey towards justice is far from over. Daniso stated that she will only find peace once the suspect has been convicted and sentenced.

While still dealing with the emotional and physical trauma of the incident, Daniso expressed her desire to understand the motives behind the attack. She hopes to find healing and forgiveness once she has gained a better understanding of the driver’s actions.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of passenger safety and the need for stringent measures to protect individuals using ride-hailing services. Both passengers and drivers should be aware of their rights and responsibilities to ensure a safe and respectful environment during transportation.

Authorities and ride-hailing companies must work together to implement safety protocols, including background checks on drivers and mechanisms for reporting incidents. By prioritizing the safety of passengers, communities can foster an environment of trust and confidence in these services.

As the case progresses, it is essential for the justice system to provide a fair and thorough investigation, ensuring that the victims receive the support they need and that the perpetrator is held accountable for his actions. Only then can the healing process truly begin for the victims and their families.
