On the night of March 16, 2024, the Reddersburg Police received a call from the manager of a retail store in town, reporting an alarm that had gone off.

Acting swiftly, members of the Reddersburg Police rushed to the scene, only to find that the suspects had already fled and nothing appeared to have been stolen. However, their vigilance did not waver.

Just a few hours later, in the early morning of March 17, the manager received another call about suspicious activity inside the store. Once again, the Reddersburg Police were immediately informed and wasted no time in responding.

This time, they were joined by Reddersburg Neighbourhood Patrollers and members from the neighbouring Eddenburg Police station.

The business premises was swiftly surrounded, and as the search ensued, one suspect attempted to escape through the roof but was apprehended without delay.

The search continued, leading to the discovery of another suspect hiding inside the ceiling. The preliminary investigation revealed the presence of explosives planted on the store’s safe, prompting the summoning of the SAPS Explosives Unit.

As a result of the vigilance displayed by the Reddersburg Police members, along with their sterling partnership with the community and neighbouring stations, two suspects, aged 23 and 24, were arrested for business burglary and contravention of the immigration act. They are now awaiting their appearance in the Reddersburg Magistrate’s Court.
