Early Sunday morning saw a tragic accident on the R59 freeway near the Kliprivier Road off-ramp in Ekurhuleni, as four men lost their lives after their car crashed.
The incident occurred shortly before 7 am, prompting an immediate response from paramedics and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).

According to initial reports, the single hatchback vehicle in which the men were travelling appears to have lost control. The car veered off the road, drove into a ditch, and rolled multiple times before coming to a standstill.
The severity of the accident resulted in the car ending up several metres away from the road, with the four occupants found unresponsive around the vehicle.
Upon arrival, EMPD and paramedics assessed the scene and confirmed the worst fears. All four adult males were pronounced dead on the spot. William Ntladi, the City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, noted that the victims were discovered motionless and scattered around the wreckage.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at this stage and is currently under investigation by the EMPD. Ntladi expressed that it’s still early to determine the factors leading to this devastating accident.
