A devastating accident occurred in Midrand, resulting in the loss of two young lives. The incident took place on Saturday, just before 5 pm, on the N1 southbound carriageway near the Olifantsfontein turn-off.
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen, paramedics swiftly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered that a SUV had overturned after colliding with another vehicle. The rollover caused some occupants to be ejected from the vehicle, leading to fatal consequences. Bystanders had already rushed three children to a nearby hospital prior to the arrival of paramedics.
Tragically, a seventeen-year-old male was found to have sustained critical injuries after being ejected from the vehicle. Despite the paramedics’ exhaustive efforts to resuscitate him using advanced life support methods, the young patient succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
Additionally, a nine-year-old boy was discovered unresponsive in the overturned vehicle, with catastrophic injuries that proved fatal.
Injured individuals from both vehicles were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. An adult male and female from the same vehicle, as well as three occupants from the other vehicle, sustained moderate injuries but were stabilized on the scene.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) will conduct an investigation into the cause of the collision and the events leading up to it. Meanwhile, in Centurion, another tragic incident occurred on Friday evening. Three individuals, including two children, lost their lives in a motor vehicle crash on the N14 near Rooihuiskraal.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders discovered a light delivery vehicle that had veered off the roadway, overturning multiple times before colliding with a wall. The details surrounding this accident are also under investigation.
