A tragic accident in Durban took the life of a 28-year-old Burundian who was working as a motorcycle delivery guy. It was his first day on the job, and the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Private emergency responders confirmed the unfortunate incident.
The accident took place on North Coast Road in Woodview when the young delivery guy was hit by a black Mini Cooper. He was making a sharp U-turn at the time of the incident, according to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a private emergency response team.
A concerned passer-by witnessed the accident and immediately called Rusa for assistance. The team quickly arrived at the scene and found the delivery guy lying several meters away from his Big Boy 125cc motorcycle, fatally injured.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the deceased had just started his job as a grocery delivery person for a local supermarket. His work colleagues, who also arrived at the scene, informed the reaction officers that it was his first day at work.
The driver of the Mini Cooper provided his account of the incident to Rusa. He stated that he was travelling behind the motorcycle from Phoenix to Ottawa, north of the CBD, when the young delivery guy suddenly made a U-turn. The driver was unable to stop in time, resulting in a collision with the motorbike. Thankfully, the driver of the Mini Cooper did not sustain any injuries, although the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged.
