Paul Badenhorst, a 72-year-old landlord, has appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court, facing a serious murder charge after allegedly shooting his tenant, Frederick Herman Knoetzee, who was 66 years old.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, the North West police spokesperson, Badenhorst’s court case has been postponed to Friday, allowing a formal bail application to take place.

On September 22, 2024, the tragic incident unfolded at a property near Hartbeespoort Dam. Authorities reported that the confrontation began when Knoetzee approached Badenhorst over a lack of electricity and water supply.

The ensuing argument escalated, leading Badenhorst to retrieve a firearm from his home and allegedly fire at Knoetzee, striking him in the upper body. Despite immediate medical assistance, Knoetzee was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The police swiftly apprehended Badenhorst during an intelligence-driven operation in the Skeerport area shortly after the incident. Alongside his arrest, officers recovered a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, which is now subject to ballistic testing.
