A 40-year-old foreign national was arrested by police in Limpopo following the brutal murder of an elderly woman in Mahwelereng on Sunday.
The suspect, who resided in close proximity to the slain woman’s home, is due to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he will face a charge of murder.

Initial police reports reveal that a concerned neighbour heard a disturbance and rushed to the scene. Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the provincial police spokesperson in Limpopo, disclosed that the neighbour found the 74-year-old victim outside her house, tied with a rope and suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The shocked neighbour quickly contacted the police and emergency services. Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed the victim’s death at the scene.
Local detectives acted promptly, identifying and apprehending the suspect shortly after the attack. According to Brigadier Mashaba, further investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
