A 27-year-old man is set to apply for bail in the Zaaiplaas Periodical Court on Thursday, following allegations of raping a 101-year-old woman.
This disturbing event has deeply unsettled the community in Limpopo, particularly the Zaaiplaas policing area in Sekhukhune, where the incident occurred on July 27.
The provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, disclosed the chain of events surrounding the case. The elderly victim was asleep at around 5 AM when she was attacked.
The suspect is reported to have broken a window to gain access to the house. Once inside, he allegedly tried to strangle the woman before committing the heinous act. Following the crime, the suspect fled the scene, prompting neighbours to notify the police, who swiftly launched a manhunt.

Thanks to the efficiency of the police force, the suspect, who resides in the same neighbourhood as the victim, was quickly identified and arrested at his home. He now faces multiple charges, including rape and housebreaking.
The Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the attack, calling it a despicable act of violence against a vulnerable member of society. Lieutenant General Hadebe emphasized that this crime is not just an assault on an individual but an affront to societal values and a collective sense of safety.
