A 19-year-old suspect has been taken in for questioning in connection with the tragic death of Monneashia Prins from Eerste River, Cape Town. The lifeless body of the young girl was discovered in a canal near Ithemba Farms last Saturday, just a day after she went missing.
Police have also confirmed that the 11-year-old girl had been raped.
Monneashia Prins disappeared on Friday, and her last known attire consisted of grey school pants and a pink hoodie. She was last seen in the vicinity of Ithemba Farms, which is situated between Blue Downs and Eerste River.
The police initially had no information about the identity of the deceased child when her body was found. Consequently, an inquest docket was opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says: “The victim was covered in mud and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”
The authorities have now apprehended a 19-year-old suspect for questioning in relation to this tragic incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the police will work diligently to uncover the truth and bring justice to Monneashia Prins and her grieving family.

Twigg says: “It was established that the body that was found was that of the child that was reported missing. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
He says: “We can confirm that a 19-year-old man was taken in for questioning regarding the murder, rape and kidnapping of the 11-year-old girl whose body was found in a canal last Saturday in Old Faure Road, Eerste River.
“He will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.”
