Newlands West Man Fatally Shot In Attempted Hijacking, Community Demands Justice

A Newlands West community is reeling after a tragic shooting claimed the life of 28-year-old Austin Mark Khan in what police are investigating as an attempted hijacking.
The 28-year-old man was killed outside a local shop in Newlands West on Tuesday evening during a violent attempted carjacking.

The incident occurred outside a shop in the area.
Khan, who was in his vehicle at the time, was ambushed by four armed suspects driving a white Toyota Etios.
According to Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZNVIP Protection Services, their reaction units rushed to the scene after receiving multiple reports of gunfire.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that four armed male suspects had attempted to hijack a vehicle near a local shop.
During the course of the attempted hijacking, and while fleeing the scene, the suspects fired several shots at the man,” said Naidoo.
Victim Declared Dead At The Scene

Despite swift efforts by KZNVIP paramedics, Khan was declared dead at the scene.

“He was found critically injured and unresponsive. Sadly, he showed no signs of life upon medical assessment,” Naidoo confirmed.

Authorities have since launched a full investigation into the murder and carjacking.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda stated that Newlands East police are handling the case.
“It has been reported that the victim was in his vehicle when he was ambushed by the suspects, who demanded his car before fatally wounding him,” said Netshiunda.
Family Calls For Justice
The family of Austin Mark Khan is demanding justice for his untimely and violent death.

A relative, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed their grief and called on law enforcement to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators.
Khan’s death has sparked outrage in the community, with many residents calling for increased police presence and measures to curb the rising crime in the area.
The police are urging anyone with information related to the suspects or the incident to come forward.
