Newborn Baby Found Dumped In Plastic Bag In Delft

A group of friends in Delft made a shocking discovery on Tuesday morning when they found the body of a newborn baby girl dumped in a plastic bag.

The infant was discovered on a rubbish heap at around 10:00, with the afterbirth and umbilical cord still attached.

Witnesses Describe Disturbing Scene After Newborn’s Body Found

One of the friends, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were walking a friend home when they noticed dogs gathered around a plastic bag.

“We were walking to take our friend home when we saw these dogs busy with this sakkie.

“We kicked the dogs away and when we checked inside the sakkie, we saw a baby girl with the afterbirth and umbilical cord.”

The witness claimed that authorities were nearby at the time.

“The army and Law Enforcement were standing close to the scene, but they did nothing. Hulle het verby gegly.”

The group said they alerted police and took steps to secure the scene themselves.

“We contacted the police and took ropes to cordon off the area because it’s a scene. My other friend went to get a sheet to cover the baby.”

The witnesses described the emotional toll of the discovery.

“It was broad daylight, and everyone claimed they saw nothing. A dog does not even do such things to its puppy.

“We waited until the forensics came and the scene was cleared. It was painful to witness something like this.”

Another friend said the incident brought back personal trauma. “I have been in a situation where I lost my baby at six months old in the hospital, and to see a mother discard her baby like this is traumatic.”

Residents added that incidents of babies being dumped in the area are not uncommon.

Delft Police Open Inquest, No Arrests Yet

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened.

“Delft police registered an inquest for investigation after a foetus was discovered on an open field in Sering Way, Tsunami informal settlement, on Tuesday afternoon, 7 April 2026, at about 1pm.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”
