Ndwedwe Horror: Son Arrested After Brutally Killing Elderly Parents

An elderly couple have been brutally murdered, allegedly at the hands of their 43-year-old son, in a shocking attack that unfolded at the Thafamasi area, in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they were contacted at 13:26 by a local councillor who urgently requested assistance after receiving reports that the couple had been killed inside their home — and that their son was blocking neighbours from entering, allegedly standing guard at the door armed with a knife.

Ndwedwe Scene of Devastation

RUSA Reaction Officers and Paramedics were immediately despatched from their headquarters, approximately 33 kilometres away, to attempt to save the victims, who were reportedly bleeding heavily.

Upon arrival, Reaction Officers met with Ndwedwe SAPS members and began searching for the homestead. The property was eventually located, and officers managed to apprehend the son before entering the rondavel.

Inside, responders found a horrific scene:
Phumzile Rachel Ngcobo (74) and Mziwamandla Ngcobo (79) lay in a pool of blood. Paramedics declared both deceased at the scene. They had sustained multiple stab wounds, and their faces had been severely bludgeoned.

A knife and several logs believed to have been used in the attack were recovered.

Suspect Treated for Self-Inflicted Wounds

The suspect, who had allegedly attempted to take his own life, was restrained and treated for self-inflicted stab wounds by paramedics. Authorities say it is not yet confirmed whether he suffers from any mental health conditions.

Police have launched a murder investigation.
